Aprea AB - Karolinska Institutet spin-out Company with a unique approach to combat cancer  

The company was founded in 2003 by Prof. Klas Wiman, Prof. Galina Selivanova, Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Bykov, Prof. Staffan Strömblad, Wenjie Bao, PhD., Natalia Issaeva, PhD., and Karolinska Innovations AB. Since then Karolinska Development has been the lead investor. Two further investors (The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies and Praktikerinvest AB) entered 2005, and mid 2007 also Industrifonden joined as an owner. The company’s intellectual properties have been thoroughly protected in a total of six patent families, where the key patents protecting APR-246 and backup analogs have recently been approved in EU and US. An Orphan Drug Designation was granted at EMA in 2010, for the treatment of APR-246 in AML.
